Yoga as a Way of Life
Home » Yoga Teacher Training Courses
Yoga teacher training courses at Indian Classical Yoga are designed for students who want to move beyond the mat and understand yoga as it was originally taught, as a complete science of body, breath, and mind. Rooted in the Indian Classical Yoga tradition and affiliated with The Yoga Institute in Mumbai, our courses combine authentic philosophy with practical teaching skills so graduates leave ready to become certified yoga teachers with real depth of knowledge. Courses run in three countries, France, India, and the Netherlands, in residential, weekend, and online formats, so you can choose the path that fits your life. Whether you are stepping onto the mat as a teacher for the first time or deepening years of practice, this page will help you compare your options and find the right course.
In France, the course runs as an immersive residential retreat, set away from daily distractions so students can focus fully on practice, philosophy, and teaching methodology. Meals, accommodation, and daily sessions are structured around the traditional Indian Classical Yoga timetable, giving the experience an authentic, ashram-like feel.
The India course takes place close to the roots of the tradition, where students train under teachers connected to The Yoga Institute Mumbai lineage. Many describe this as the most transformative option, since the culture, food and daily rhythm all support the learning.
In the Netherlands, courses run as weekend modules in Arnhem and Bilthoven, letting working professionals complete their training over several months without stepping away from their jobs or family life. This format suits students who prefer to absorb what they learn week by week rather than all at once.

Every yoga teacher training course at Indian Classical Yoga follows a structured syllabus built around four pillars: asana, pranayama, meditation, and philosophy. You will learn correct alignment and adjustment for classical postures, breathing techniques used in both practice and teaching, and meditation methods drawn from traditional texts rather than modern adaptations. Teaching methodology runs through the whole course, so by the end you are not only practicing well but also able to plan, sequence, and lead a class with confidence.
Philosophy is not treated as an afterthought here. Our yoga philosophy teacher training draws on Patanjali's Yoga Sutras and the teachings of Shri Yogendra, exploring what yoga actually means beyond the physical postures most people associate with it. Students study the ethical and psychological framework behind the practice, the Yamas and Niyamas, and how these ideas apply to modern life and to teaching others. This grounding is part of what sets our graduates apart: they can explain the why behind a class, not just the how.
A common question we hear is whether this yoga teacher training for beginners is realistic, and the answer is yes. No prior teaching experience is required to join, and many students arrive with only a personal home practice behind them. The course builds knowledge gradually, so beginners are not left behind and experienced practitioners are still challenged. If you already teach and want to deepen your understanding of philosophy and advanced technique, the same course structure works for you too, since content is layered rather than rigidly split by level.
For students who cannot travel to a residential course, we also offer traditional indian yoga online sessions, so distance does not have to stand in the way of authentic training. Live online classes cover the same core philosophy, asana and pranayama content taught in person, guided by teachers trained in the same lineage. This option works well for students testing whether teacher training is right for them or those who want to combine online study with a shorter in-person intensive later on.
Indian Classical Yoga is affiliated with The Yoga Institute in Mumbai, one of the oldest organized yoga institutes in the world, founded by Shri Yogendra in 1918. This Yoga Institute Mumbai-affiliated teacher training matters because it connects our teaching directly to a documented lineage rather than a passing trend, and it means our syllabus is measured against more than a century of teaching practices. When you train with us, you are not just learning yoga; you are joining a tradition passed down through generations of teachers.
Start by being honest about your time and travel constraints. A residential course in France or India suits students who can commit to several uninterrupted weeks and want full immersion. Weekend courses in the Netherlands suit those balancing work or family, spread across months instead. If you are still unsure, our team is happy to talk through your options and recommend a course.
